Can we call this a transitional period? Usually, when we do so we have not only a pretty clear idea of the past state of affairs but observable trends that point toward a possible new plateau of stability. I’m not even sure we understand what it meant to live for the best part of a century under the “exorbitant privilege” of the dollar. As for the future, Alex’s article makes it clear… everything’s up for grabs. It’s all about the clarity of geopolitical stakes in the age of Trump (leading a failing and flailing hegemon)!
