Your article mentions that Corporations have to show they are doing socially valuable things. Which is true, but these gestures which are often highly publicised, are far overshadowed by the destruction both socially and ecologically they are a huge part of all over the world. The hypocrisy of such actions is quite frankly astounding.

The globalization game that is being played by corporate entities at the moment is a huge issue for smaller nations or nations who do not want to be a part of it as its swallowing them up and forcing them to change in ways they are not ready for and they should not be forced into.
The continuing unquenchable thirst for year on year profit means that somebody has to lose out, and in a truly progressive society, that being a society which is about progressing humanity rather than continued acquisition of material wealth, it simply will not do. It’s also a system which is proven to be completely unsustainable, it will carry on for longer than it should if markets are manipulated and countries are bailed out, but the reality is that eventually it will completely fall apart. When this happens all that will be left to show of it is the destruction and confusion left in its wake due to the mindsets of a couple of generations who have been educated into serving and living within this system.

I also have to say the following statement is quite troubling: “We need to imagine a new politics of globalization and create official fora in which voters have a sense that they can impact the work of bodies such as the G20, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Trade Organisation.” Voters having a “sense that they can impact” is eluding to the fact that they will not be able to have any impact at all, just a sense they can affect it, but really the system that is in place will continue to go on as long as it keeps its shareholders happy and its profits rising.

Globalisation is happening. We can’t run away from it, neither should we stop it in the sense of global connectivity. There is however a huge worry for vast amounts of the world’s population on what the corporate idea of globalisation is compared to the humanitarian idea, and we should certainly not allow the decision of how to implement a global society to entities whose only goal is to profit, or government bodies who can’t effectively resolve the economic and social issues in their own country, yet alone on a global scale.
