True there are many gaps, but this is more due to the nature of India’s largely inefficient and corrupt bureaucracy; the erosion of public institutions which solidified over 70 plus years of dynastic democracy under Congress; and the remnants of socialism rammed by Nehru since the 1950s. Indian democracy is certainly more open and raucous than the authoritarian turn the West is witnessing now.
As for Pakistan getting ahead in diplomatic moves, anyone who is familiar with Indian history will know how that’s rooted in British colonial preference for creating this nation. That attitude is retained till today by most of the Western Establishment.
Incidentally in 2013 India was far worse off than now. It was then considered a part of the ” Fragile Five” economies. I am sure the author knows it is not Modi who was PM then.
