If the present “frozen conflict” between US/Israel and Iran, with the effective choking off of maritime trade via the Strait of Hormuz, persists through the September UN General Assembly and Xi’s putative state visit to Washington, one can only guess at the scale of economic damage and the longer-term consequences for US (hard and soft) power–and for US-China strategic competition.
