These are the same analysts that call themselves analytical of most industries yet cannot predict market crashes just like impending bubbles which finally burst in 2007. Comparing Google and Microsoft today is pretty much justified, but it was not that in the past, because one was a search engine company and the other one was a OS company. But in the end, all companies do whatever the market requires at the moment for only one thing, that is profit. Google and Microsoft have been doing the same things, acquiring startups with great ideas and merging into one ecosystem because they already have the client, and if they keep doing this, they will be bigger, stronger and faster. So there is no point comparing or saying that these companies are getting bloated and there is risk of new innovations not coming out, whereas the author might have missed the point that these companies have already outgrown the revenue making capacities of their core products long ago, and they ventured into new businesses by acquiring startups and ideas that are innovative. Why? Because they have the money to bring new ideas to fruition, else what are the chances at an innovator with the next big idea has all the cash to even develop it? Not none, but very little.
