Afshin Marashi is the Farzaneh family chair in modern Iranian history at the University of Oklahoma. His research focuses on the cultural and intellectual history of nationalism in 19th- and 20th-century Iran. His first book, 鈥淣ationalizing Iran: Culture, Power, and the State, 1870-1940,鈥� was published in 2008 by the University of Washington Press. He has also co-edited a collection of essays, titled 鈥淩ethinking Iranian Nationalism and Modernity.: He is currently completing a book manuscript, called 鈥淓xile and the Kingdom: The Parsi Community of India and the Making of Modern Iranian Nationalism.鈥�
